Cupertino Elite Taekwondo Center's AYSF Youth Leaders Gain International Referee Experience at the 2026 Gimcheon World Championships

Members of Elite Taekwondo Center in Cupertino, California — Elly Huh, Kyomin Kwon, Master Ryan Bae, and Grandmaster Kwangil Bae — proudly participated as referees at the 2026 Gimcheon World Championships in Korea, gaining valuable experience on an international stage.

Elly Huh and Kyomin Kwon are students of Elite Taekwondo Center, while Master Ryan Bae serves as an instructor at the school. All three are also active members of the Amateur Youth Sports Foundation (AYSF) and serve in leadership roles within the organization's Youth Leadership Group, where they are involved in youth development, volunteer service, and community engagement.

The Gimcheon World Championships brought together approximately 3,000 athletes representing more than 30 countries, creating a truly international environment of athletes, coaches, referees, and sports officials from around the world.

For Elly Huh and Kyomin Kwon, this was their first international referee experience. Serving as referees at a major international event gave them the opportunity to experience competition from an entirely new perspective and learn firsthand about fairness, responsibility, focus, professionalism, communication, integrity, and sportsmanship.

Master Ryan Bae, an Elite Taekwondo Center instructor and AYSF youth leader, also participated as a referee while supporting and guiding the students throughout their international experience. Together, the three young leaders worked alongside international officials, interacted with athletes and representatives from different countries, and expanded their understanding of both sports and different cultures.

The experience also taught them an important lesson: sports are about much more than competing and winning medals. Through referee service and volunteerism, young people can give back to the sport, serve others, develop leadership skills, and become responsible members of their communities.

The group was accompanied by Grandmaster Kwangil Bae, Owner and Head Instructor of Elite Taekwondo Center, who also served as an international referee at the championship. In recognition of his performance and professionalism, Grandmaster Bae was honored as a Best Referee at the event, providing an inspiring example of dedication, professionalism, and service for the younger generation.

This meaningful experience represented both the educational philosophy of Cupertino Elite Taekwondo Center and the mission of the Amateur Youth Sports Foundation. It provided young leaders with an opportunity to take what they have learned through Taekwondo beyond their local training environment and apply those values on an international stage.

캘리포니아 쿠퍼티노에 위치한 Elite Taekwondo Center 소속의 Elly Huh, Kyomin Kwon, Master Ryan Bae, 그리고 Grandmaster Kwangil Bae가 한국에서 열린 2026 김천 월드 챔피언십에 레퍼리로 함께 참가하며 뜻깊은 국제 경험을 쌓았습니다.

특히 Elly Huh와 Kyomin Kwon은 Elite Taekwondo Center에서 수련하고 있는 학생들이며, Master Ryan Bae 역시 Elite Taekwondo Center 소속 사범으로 활동하고 있습니다. 이들은 모두 현재 Amateur Youth Sports Foundation(AYSF)의 회원으로 활동하고 있으며, 유스 리더십 그룹의 회장단 및 리더십 역할을 맡아 스포츠뿐만 아니라 봉사와 청소년 리더십 활동에도 적극적으로 참여하고 있습니다.

이번 국제대회에는 약 30여 개국에서 3,000여 명의 선수들이 참가하여 세계 여러 나라의 선수, 코치, 심판 및 스포츠 관계자들이 함께하는 국제적인 무대가 펼쳐졌습니다. Elite Taekwondo Center의 젊은 참가자들에게는 미국 지역 도장을 넘어 세계적인 스포츠 환경을 직접 경험할 수 있었던 매우 특별한 기회였습니다.

특히 Elly Huh와 Kyomin Kwon에게는 이번 대회가 첫 국제 레퍼리 경험이었습니다. 두 학생은 실제 국제대회에서 레퍼리 역할을 수행하며 경기 운영과 판정뿐만 아니라 공정성, 책임감, 집중력, 스포츠맨십, 국제적인 의사소통 및 전문적인 자세의 중요성을 직접 배우게 되었습니다.

Master Ryan Bae도 Elite Taekwondo Center 사범이자 AYSF 유스 리더로서 함께 레퍼리로 참가하여 학생들이 새로운 국제 환경에 잘 적응하고 경험을 쌓을 수 있도록 지원했습니다. 세 명의 젊은 리더들은 세계 각국의 심판들과 함께 활동하며 서로 다른 문화와 스포츠 환경을 경험하고 국제적인 시야를 넓힐 수 있었습니다.

이번 경험은 학생들에게 태권도가 단순히 선수로서 경기에 출전하고 메달을 획득하는 것만을 의미하지 않는다는 것을 보여주었습니다. 레퍼리 활동과 봉사를 통해 스포츠에 다시 기여하고, 다른 사람을 돕고, 책임감을 배우며 리더로 성장하는 것 또한 스포츠 교육의 중요한 부분이라는 것을 직접 체험할 수 있었습니다.

또한 Elite Taekwondo Center의 관장인 Grandmaster Kwangil Bae도 국제 레퍼리로 함께 참가하였으며, 이번 대회에서 Best Referee로 선정되는 영예를 안았습니다. 이는 함께 참가한 학생들과 젊은 사범들에게 전문성, 꾸준한 노력, 책임감 그리고 스포츠를 위한 봉사의 가치를 직접 보여주는 뜻깊은 본보기가 되었습니다.
